Product Overview
Grade 5 titanium wire is the most widely used titanium alloy wire, offering high strength, good corrosion resistance, and excellent strength-to-weight ratio. It is commonly specified for aerospace, medical, and high-performance industrial components. Grade 5 wire is used for fasteners, springs, formed-wire parts, and as feedstock for joining processes where Ti-6Al-4V is required.
Chemical Composition
| Element | Content |
|---|---|
| Titanium | Balance |
| Aluminum | 5.50–6.75% |
| Vanadium | 3.50–4.50% |
| Iron | ≤ 0.40% |
| Oxygen | ≤ 0.20% |
| Carbon | ≤ 0.08% |
| Nitrogen | ≤ 0.05% |
| Hydrogen | ≤ 0.015% |
| Other elements | ≤ 0.10% each |
| Other elements total | ≤ 0.40% total |
Typical Applications
- Aerospace fasteners, springs, clips, retainers, and formed-wire components
- Medical device components and instruments where Ti-6Al-4V is specified
- High-performance industrial hardware requiring high strength and corrosion resistance
- Marine and chemical service components where higher alloy strength is beneficial
- Wire feedstock for additive manufacturing or joining when specified
Common Sizes and Forms of Supply
- Diameter range: 0.10 mm to 6.00 mm
- Supply forms: spooled wire, coils, straightened and cut lengths
- Condition options: annealed, cold-worked, stress-relieved, or heat-treated per requirement
| Diameter Category | Diameter Range | Common Uses |
|---|---|---|
| Fine wire | 0.10–1.00 mm | precision forming, medical/precision parts |
| Medium wire | 1.00–6.00 mm | fasteners, springs, formed components |

Notes and Precautions
- Grade 5 has significantly higher strength than CP grades; confirm forming feasibility and required heat treatment route.
- For welding, use appropriate Ti-6Al-4V filler and strict inert gas shielding per your WPS to prevent contamination.
- Mechanical properties depend on diameter, condition, and heat treatment; specify tensile, elongation, and hardness targets when ordering.
